Loveland Reservoir Alpine, CA
Loveland Reservoir is a hidden gem on the backside of Alpine. Taking Tavern Rd south it turns into Japatul Rd and a short distance later Loveland will be on your right side. Over the last few years there has been some controvery around the lake and the Sweetwater Authority regarding draining the waters that made the reservoir unusable. Fishing is occasionally closed due to various reasons so always check ahead of time before making the treak out there. Hours change by season. March through September they close an hour later at 6pm.
Loveland, the reservoir and the surrounding area can be amazingly beautiful especially in the spring after the winter rains have greened everything up. The most popular activity at Loveland is fishing. Hiking, wildlife watching, especially birds is also popular.
When you first into the parking lot, it’s just a gravel lot, and there isn’t any water to be seen. At the trail head there are some educations signs. There is a series of wide steps as you desend from the parking lot to the lake area.
Fishing at Loveland Reservoir

Going to Loveland you will be rewarded with peace and quiet adn the splendor of nature. Other than the parking lot there are no facilities, so you will have to bring whatever you need, especially lots of water.
